Senior Aerospace Engineer

Sam Prudden has a diverse work experience in the aerospace engineering field. Sam started their career as a research assistant at RMIT University in 2013, where they worked until 2014. During their time there, they also served as a Project Systems Engineering Intern at Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd & Co. KG in 2014.

In 2016, Prudden joined Prospect Aero as a Multi-rotor UAS Specialist Consultant. Sam provided expertise in unmanned aerial systems until 2020. At the same time, they pursued a PhD in Aerospace Engineering at RMIT University from 2014 to 2020. Sam'sresearch focused on studying the rotor aerodynamic interaction effects for multi-rotor unmanned aircraft systems in forward flight.

From 2016 to 2018, Prudden worked as a Flight Instructor for RPAS at Flight Data Systems, where they trained students on operating multirotor RPAS and assessed their abilities as part of the RePL syllabus.

In 2019, Prudden joined AVT Australia as a Mechanical Engineer, responsible for designing and testing high-performance, multi-sensor imaging systems. Sam later became the Chief Remote Pilot, overseeing RPAS-based VLOS and N-VLOS airborne testing and development. Additionally, they served as the Chief Maintenance Officer and RPAS safety representative.

Currently, Prudden works as a Senior Aerospace Engineer at Emesent, starting in 2022. Sam'sprimary roles include system design, testing, and evaluation for the Hovermap product hardware and accessories. Sam is also involved in the development of process improvements, such as implementing CAD design management strategies and designing mounting solutions for ground robots.

Sam Prudden has a strong background in aerospace engineering. From 2016 to 2020, Sam pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Aerospace Engineering at RMIT University. Prior to that, from 2011 to 2015, Sam completed a Bachelor of Aerospace Engineering (Honours) with a focus on Unmanned Aircraft Systems, also at RMIT University. In 2013, Sam spent six months studying Aerospace Engineering on exchange at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. Sam's educational journey began at Ballarat High School, where they completed their VCE from 2005 to 2010. Additionally, from 2008 to 2009, Sam obtained a Cert. III in Engineering from the University of Ballarat. In terms of certifications, Sam obtained an Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate (AROC) and a Remote Pilot Licence (RePL), Multirotor <25kg unrestricted from the Civil Aviation Safety Authority in January 2018. Furthermore, in April 2020, Sam acquired the RPAS Chief Remote Pilot approval for AVT Australia from the same institution. It is also noted that Sam has obtained a Working with Children Check, although the specific details regarding the month and year of acquisition are not provided.
