Carla Jones is a Senior Scientist and Janet Thornton Re-entry to Science Fellow at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where since January 2018, research has focused on identifying genetic loci associated with inflammatory bowel disease through genome-wide association studies in Dr. Carl Anderson's team. Prior to this role, Carla served as a Science Teacher at Hitchin Girls' School and completed a PGCE Trainee program at the University of Cambridge. Earlier experience includes a Research Associate position at Imperial College London from 2006 to 2012. Carla holds a PhD in Immunology and a Master's degree in Genetics from Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro.
