Peter Debruge is the Chief Film Critic at Variety, where they lead a team of critics and review approximately 125 films each year, while also overseeing major film festivals. Previously, they served as an Adjunct Professor at Chapman University from 2012 to 2018, teaching a seminar on the Evolution of Narrative Film to graduate students. Their extensive experience includes roles as Senior Editor at AOL Moviefone and as a Senior Film Critic/Features Editor at Variety, where they wrote over 1,000 profiles and reviews. Peter began their career at The Daily Texan, where they earned accolades for their entertainment writing. They hold a B.S./B.A. in Radio-Television-Film from The University of Texas at Austin.
