John O'Neil is the Owner of Old Main Consulting LLC, where they partner in co-creating university mission impacts. They served at Oak Ridge National Laboratory from 2003 to 2019, holding various leadership positions, including Director of DARPA Programs and Program Manager for Homeland Security and Defense Programs. Prior to that, John was employed at Virginia Tech from 1996 to 2003, where they worked as Director of Federal Agency Relations and Associate Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations. Currently, John holds the roles of Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Utah State University, as well as Vice President of Research at the University of Arizona, positions they have held since 2024 and 2019, respectively. John earned a Ph.D. in Education Research from Virginia Tech, completing their studies in 1990.
