Nian Liu serves as the Chair and Associate Professor in the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at the University of Oklahoma since August 2012, and has held various positions within the department including Associate and Assistant Professor. In July 2023, Nian Liu became the President of the American Society of Shufa Calligraphy Education, a nonprofit organization dedicated to East Asian calligraphy education in North America. Previously, Nian Liu held the role of Executive Director at the same organization from July 2021 to June 2023. Nian Liu's academic experience includes roles as a Visiting Scholar at the University of California San Diego and The Chinese University of Hong Kong, as well as research positions at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and the East-West Center. Nian Liu holds a PhD and MA in Linguistics and an additional MA in East Asian Languages and Literatures from the University of Hawaii at Manoa, along with a BA and MA in English Literatures and Linguistics from Wuhan University.
