Al Essien is the Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), where they have worked since 2016, collaboratively designing and implementing philanthropic strategies to enhance funding partnerships. Previously, Al held various leadership roles, including Executive Director at HOPE worldwide Baltimore and Assistant Vice President for Philanthropy at Coppin State University, focusing on securing grants and major donations. Al's earlier experience includes serving as an Urban Planner for Howard County Government and as the National Fields Operation Manager for HOPE worldwide ltd. Al is currently pursuing a Bachelors of Arts in Mathematics at the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Masters of Science in Transportation Studies at Morgan State University.
