Started in 1987 by a group of 16 friends and colleagues, TASO exists to contribute to a process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. Working through its 11 Centers of Excellence and 5 projects stationed nationwide, TASO has served over 200,000 people in Uganda during its 31 years of existence. 

TASO is currently the principle recipient (2018 - 2020) of the Global Fund in Uganda managing the non public funds through its Grants Management Unit. 

TASO is recognised for having laid the foundation, through its community interventions, and implemented the differentiated service delivery models now adopted by the Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation in Uganda. 

It was registered as an NGO in Uganda in 1991 and has extended its services to all the continents of the world especially through capacity building, experience sharing and partnership.
