Yerli ve yabancı girişimcilerin Türkiye’nin teknoloji geliştirme kapasitesine katkıda bulunabilmesi amacıyla T.C. Cumhurbaşkanlığı Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı ve İstanbul Ticaret Odası ana ortaklığında kurulmuş bir teknoloji geliştirme bölgesi olan Teknopark İstanbul, Türk savunma sanayinin ileri teknoloji merkezi konumunda yer almaktadır. Teknopark İstanbul; İstanbul ve çevresindeki üniversitelerin araştırma kabiliyetlerini, nitelikli işgücünü ve bölge sanayisinin tecrübesini özellikle savunma sanayine entegre etmektedir.

Teknopark İstanbul’da başta savunma sanayi olmak üzere havacılık/uzay, denizcilik, ileri elektronik, enerji, sağlık bilimleri ve endüstriyel yazılım alanlarında yüksek teknoloji geliştirmeleri için Ar-Ge çalışmaları yapan STM, Aselsan, TAI, TEI, Roketsan, BMC, Vestel Savunma, Yaltes, C-Tech, Altınay Havacılık, Pavotek, Femsan, Armelsan, Kale Havacılık, Figes gibi şirketlerin aralarında bulunduğu 300’ü aşkın yerli ve yabancı şirket bulunmaktadır.
