David Relman is the Thomas C. and Joan M. Merigan Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Microbiology & Immunology at Stanford University, where they have been a faculty member since 1994. They currently serve as a Senior Advisor for the White House Office of Pandemic Preparedness and Response Policy and as a Senior Scholar at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies, a position held since 2011. Relman has also contributed significantly to the Center for International Security and Cooperation as Co-Director from 2011 to 2017 and served on the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Biotechnology Information from 2015 to 2019. With an MD from Harvard Medical School and a degree from MIT in Biology and Political Science, Relman has been an active advisor for various U.S. government initiatives since 1996.
