Carel Buitendag serves as the Chief Risk Officer for CIB, bringing extensive experience in credit and risk management. Previously, Carel held various credit roles at Absa Group from 1992 to 1999 and worked as a Senior Business Development Consultant at Saambou Bank in 1999. Carel has also served in senior leadership positions at Standard Bank Group, including Group and CIB Head Credit & Chief Risk Officer for Africa Regions. Academically, Carel earned a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa, a Master of Business Leadership, and completed the Global Advanced Management Programme at IE Business School.
