Awtum Brashear, Ph.D., is the Lead Computational Biologist at the Shriners Children’s Genomics Institute. They are currently involved in investigating the genetic causes of neuromusculoskeletal disorders affecting pediatric patients, employing advanced bioinformatics tools to derive insights for clinical applications. Awtum previously served as a Postdoctoral Research Scholar at the University of South Florida, focusing on the evolution of malaria parasites, and as a Graduate Research Assistant at Penn State University, where they mapped population diversity within malaria field samples. Awtum earned their Ph.D. in Immunology and Infectious Diseases from Penn State University and holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Clarkson University.
