Mike Kautzky is the Chief Technologist at Seagate Technology, where they drive innovative materials and device development to enhance data storage solutions. With 28 years of experience, they currently lead a global PhD-level organization aiming to increase hard drive capacity by over 300% by 2030. Mike has an extensive background in commercializing heat-assisted magnetic recording and has contributed significantly to the advancement of thin film materials and processes in the hard drive industry. They hold Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctorate degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Notre Dame and Stanford University and have been awarded 135 patents and 35 trade secrets. Mike enjoys leading international teams and has lived abroad three times during their career, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration.
