Michael Thomas is currently the Principal Advisor for Automation Projects at Rio Tinto, where they lead the small autonomous electric truck initiative and work on various projects aimed at advancing urban vehicle automation and decarbonising the steel industry. Previously, Michael served in multiple engineering and advisory roles at Rio Tinto, contributing to significant operational improvements and cost savings. They began their career as an Analyst at Lazard and have also completed an engineering internship at Entecho Pty Ltd. Michael holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours First Class) in Aeronautical Engineering from the University of Sydney and is currently a Councillor for the Town of Cottesloe.
