The Ottawa International Airport was opened in 1930 when the Canadian civil aviation industry was just beginning to take shape in the National Capital Region. 

In February of 1997, Transport Canada transferred the facility to the newly formed Ottawa International Airport Authority (OIAA), an independent corporation without share capital which was created on January 1, 1995, under Part II of the Canada Corporations Act. The airport operates under an 80-year Ground Lease with the Federal Government (60 years plus a 20-year extension) until 2077. The Authority is governed by a Board of Directors representing the Ottawa and Gatineau business communities, major users of airport facilities and the travelling public.

The Ottawa Airport plays an essential role in the economic growth of Canada’s Capital Region.

L'Aéroport international d'Ottawa a été inauguré en 1930, alors que l'industrie canadienne de l'aviation civile commençait tout juste à prendre forme dans la région de la capitale nationale. 

En février 1997, Transports Canada a transféré l'installation à la nouvelle Administration de l'aéroport international d'Ottawa (AAIO), une société indépendante sans capital-actions qui a été créée le 1er janvier 1995, en vertu de la partie II de la Loi sur les corporations canadiennes. L'aéroport est exploité en vertu d'un bail foncier de 80 ans avec le gouvernement fédéral (60 ans plus une prolongation de 20 ans) jusqu'en 2077.
