Tanvir Islam is a seasoned data scientist with extensive experience in the development and deployment of machine learning systems. Currently serving as a Staff Data Scientist at Okta since 2020, Tanvir oversees the full data science life-cycle and has implemented the ThreatInsight threat scoring algorithm. Previously, Tanvir worked as a Research Scientist at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory, focusing on machine learning algorithms for satellite orbiters and autonomous rover systems. Additional research roles were held at Caltech and NOAA, where contributions included advanced optimization algorithms and neural network development. Tanvir also has experience as a Visiting Scientist at the University of Calgary and The University of Tokyo, as well as serving as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Bristol. Tanvir earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering with a specialization in Machine Learning and Sensing from the University of Bristol.
