Founded in 1937, NCSL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, student-led organization that trains the next generation of policymakers, public servants, and engaged citizens. Through parliamentary debate, legislative drafting, and real-world leadership, students in NCSL carry forward a legacy of nonpartisan civic engagement.

The Board of Directors serves as the organization’s governing body, responsible for overseeing its financial, legal, and structural integrity. Composed of alumni, advisors, and student representatives, the Board ensures NCSL’s long-term stability, provides guidance to student leadership, and upholds its mission as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

The Council of State, chaired by the Governor, consists of five additional officers who work together to lead the North Carolina Student Legislature. This team oversees the organization’s vision, programming, and day-to-day operations.

Council of State

The Office of the Student Governor (OSG) supports the Governor in advancing their agenda and serving the organization. Composed of appointed staff and advisors, OSG works behind the scenes to coordinate policy, communication, and organizational initiatives throughout the legislative year.
