Heather Slania

Chief Librarian

Heather Slania is a cultural heritage leader and art librarian with over 20 years of experience in academic and museum libraries. Currently, as Chief Librarian at the National Gallery of Art, Heather leads efforts to advance the Library Division's mission while promoting innovative access to collections and services. Previously, Heather served in various leadership roles, including Director of the Library and Research Center at the National Museum of Women in the Arts and Director of Library and Academic Support Services at Maryland Institute College of Art. Heather holds a Master of Library Science from the University of Maryland and a Bachelor of Science from Northwestern University, and is dedicated to shaping inclusive and future-ready library systems.
