Harlan Mandel is the CEO of Media Development Investment Fund, where they lead a mission-driven investment initiative that supports independent media in regions where press freedom is threatened. Since their appointment in 2011, Harlan has overseen investments in over 130 media companies across 44 countries, managing critical financing that strengthens independent news sources. Prior to this role, Harlan served as Deputy Managing Director and held positions at the Open Society Institute and Morrison & Foerster. Harlan holds a JD from Columbia University and a BA in International Relations and Asian Studies from the University of Pennsylvania, and has participated as a member of the World Economic Forum's Global Future Council on Media, Entertainment, and Culture.
