Founded in 1995 from the then Ngare Sergoi Rhino Sanctuary, the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy serves as a catalyst for conservation across northern Kenya and beyond. 

Lewa envisions a future where people across Kenya continue to value, protect and benefit from wildlife. This future depends on communities being able to derive their day-to-day livelihoods in ways that are compatible with thriving wildlife habitat. As a result, Lewa invests heavily in the livelihoods of its neighbours through programmes in education, healthcare, water, micro-enterprise, youth empowerment and more. These programmes have enabled the Conservancy to build strong relationships and goodwill within the neighbouring communities and ensured that people and wildlife both benefit from Lewa’s conservation efforts. As a catalyst and champion of this model that puts people at the centre of conservation, Lewa has influenced and supported the conservancy management for both private and community lands across northern Kenya.
  
Lewa is also a unique entity in that it is a privately managed conservation area, owned and run by Kenyan people, for the benefit of local communities and Kenyans at large. 

For the last three decades, Lewa’s innovative practices have resulted in thriving black rhino habitat and population, which in turn creates a robust ecosystem for a multitude of species including the endangered Grevy’s zebra, elephant, lion, cheetah, giraffe and more. 

Lewa also practices a tourism model that has a low impact on the environment but is maximised to support a proportion of its running costs. The Conservancy also hosts the annual, world-famous Safaricom Marathon.

The Communications Team at The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is responsible for managing all aspects of internal and external communications to support the organization's conservation and community development goals. This includes handling media relations, digital and social media outreach, donor communications, and public relations. The team ensures that Lewa's mission, activities, and successes are effectively communicated to a global audience, fostering support and engagement from donors, partners, and the wider public.

Communications Team

The Human Resources and Procurement team at The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy is responsible for managing employee relations, recruitment, and professional development to support the organization's mission. Additionally, they oversee procurement processes to ensure that resources are efficiently acquired and managed to support various programmes and conservation efforts. This team plays a crucial role in maintaining operational effectiveness and fostering a positive work environment within the conservancy.

Human Resources and Procurement

The Operations and Support Team at The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy ensures smooth and effective functioning of the Conservancy’s various activities. The IT Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining technology systems that support conservation efforts. The Community Liaison Officer fosters strong relationships with local communities, ensuring their needs and issues are addressed. The Security Administrative Officer coordinates security measures to protect both wildlife and visitors, while the Park Ranger actively monitors and manages wildlife health and safety within the Conservancy. Together, this team ensures that both operational and community support aspects work in harmony to achieve Lewa's conservation goals.

Operations and Support Team

The Project Coordination and Program Management team at The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy oversees the planning, execution, and monitoring of various conservation and community development initiatives. By coordinating digital literacy, conservation education, healthcare, and monitoring and evaluation efforts, this team ensures that Lewa’s multifaceted programs operate efficiently and effectively, fostering a symbiotic relationship between wildlife conservation and community wellbeing across northern Kenya.
