KSRTC as the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is commonly known began its service from 1961 and since then has become one of the most reputed and popular surface transport operators amongst travelers from different cross sections of society. KSRTC is one of the few state road transport corporations that have been profitable year on year. 
Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation is a pioneer and vibrant organization serving 2.5 million passengers daily, with 7500 buses and earning revenue of Rs.590 lakh per day . KSRTC was the first road transport corporation to induct Volvo buses and is now the country's largest premium fleet operator.
KSRTC is introducing latest technological innovations and making extensive use of technology in the field of transportation and has been the first to switch to electronic ticketing machines. It has also pioneered a cell phone-friendly, web-based ticket reservation system AWATAR, which won the National award for e-Governance 2009-2010.
Though, the innovative efforts of KSRTC have been recognized with the national as well as international awards including Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award for Best Large Scale Service Industry. 
KSRTC operates services from Bangalore to all major  destinations across south India including Mumbai, Poona, Shirdi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ooty, Tirupathi, Mangalore, Mysore,  Nellore, Goa(Panaji),Ernakulam, Kottayam, Kasargod, Kozhikode, Palghat, Thiruvanathapuram, Trichur and other places.
