David Clarke is a professor and head of the School of Microbiology at University College Cork, where they focus on the molecular biology of bacteria-host interactions, particularly the transitions from beneficial bacteria to pathogens. They have held various academic positions, including lecturer roles at Maynooth University and the University of Bath, and served as a funded investigator at the APC Microbiome Institute since 2007. David earned a PhD in Microbiology from Maynooth University and a BSc in Biotechnology from Dublin City University. From 2016 to 2019, they directed the BSc in Biotechnology at University College Cork.
