Charles Chen is a seasoned legal professional with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical and automotive industries. Currently serving as Senior Associate General Counsel and Executive Director at Gilead Sciences since May 2020, Charles previously held the position of Head of Legal for Merck Healthcare China at Merck Group from January 2016 to May 2020, where responsibilities included providing legal services for pharmaceutical operations and advising on governance matters. Prior to this, Charles was a Senior Legal Counsel at BMW China from June 2012 to January 2016, focusing on distribution matters and compliance within the automotive sector. Earlier experience includes a role as Senior Legal Counsel at Ford Motor Company, where Charles supported regional operations across Asia Pacific and Africa. Charles holds a Master’s and a Bachelor’s degree in International Law from China Foreign Affairs University.
