Sterling Smith

Computer Systems Manager

Sterling Smith is a seasoned professional with extensive experience in plasma physics and computer systems management. Currently serving as the Computer Systems Manager at General Atomics since November 2009, Sterling oversees the Software Development Group, focusing on web development and predictive capabilities for the DIII-D National Fusion Facility. Previously, as a Scientist IV-VI, Sterling contributed to model comparisons and optimization for experimental codes related to DIII-D. Sterling's academic background includes a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from Princeton University and a B.S. in Physics from Utah State University, complemented by early research experience at both institutions and analytical work at Utah State University. Additionally, Sterling has a background in teaching and leadership roles through involvement with the Boy Scouts of America.
