Per 1 januari 2019 zijn de gemeenten Giessenlanden en Molenwaard gefuseerd tot de nieuwe gemeente Molenlanden. Een innovatieve plattelandsgemeente met twintig karakteristieke kernen, gelegen in een weids en mooi deel van de Zuidelijke Randstad. Een gebied dat internationaal bekend is door het werelderfgoed: de molens van Kinderdijk.
