María Carolina Jaime, PhD, PE

Geotechnical Engineer

María Carolina Jaime, PhD, PE has a diverse work experience in the field of geotechnical engineering. Most recently, they are employed as a Geotechnical Engineer at GameChange Solar since March 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Geotechnical Engineer at John T. Boyd Company from December 2019 to March 2022, where they conducted geotechnical studies for coal, limestone, and salt mines. María Carolina gained expertise in various subjects including ground support design, underground mine design, slope stability assessment, and mine subsidence analysis.

From June 2016 to December 2019, María worked as a Geotechnical Engineer at American Geotechnical & Environmental Services, Inc. During their time there, they evaluated geotechnical issues such as settlement, slope stability, and bearing capacity of foundations. María Carolina also assisted with site investigations, design analyses, and engineering reports.

María has also contributed to the field of geotechnical engineering through their work as a Technical Mentor at Bridges to Prosperity from September 2013 to June 2017. María Carolina provided guidance and training on the design and construction of pedestrian bridges in developing countries.

María Carolina'sother work experiences include roles as a Project Consultant at Civil & Environmental Consultants, Inc., where they performed geotechnical analyses and assisted with proposals and reports, and as an Adjunct Professor at Point Park University, where they taught mechanical engineering courses.

María's earlier experiences include working as a Geomechanical Engineer at CONSOL Energy, where they provided geotechnical engineering advice and designed laboratory testing programs. María Carolina also worked as a Graduate Researcher and Teaching Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh, where they conducted research on numerical modeling and rock slope design.

Additionally, María gained experience as a Geotechnical Engineering Intern at GEO-MECHANICS Inc., where they developed numerical models and managed field samples and laboratory test results.

Throughout their career, María Carolina Jaime has demonstrated expertise in geotechnical engineering, including design, analysis, site investigation, and numerical modeling.

María Carolina Jaime earned their Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the Universidad de Los Andes in 2002. María Carolina then pursued a Master of Science degree in Civil-Geotechnical Engineering from the same university, completing it in 2003. María continued their education at the University of Pittsburgh, where they obtained their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Rock Mechanics in 2011.

In addition to their academic achievements, María Carolina Jaime has obtained various certifications. María Carolina became a Professional Engineer (P.E.) in April 2018, certified by the Maryland Board of Professional Engineers. In October 2017, they obtained certification as a PennDOT Certified Drilling Inspector from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT). María is also a certified Power Vinyasa Yoga Teacher, having completed a 200-hour teacher training program at South Hills Power Yoga in July 2015. Furthermore, they obtained certification as an Underground New Coal Miner from the West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training in September 2010.
