Sean McGowan, PE, is a licensed Professional Engineer with over 16 years of federal service, currently serving as the Earthquake Program Manager and Building Science Lead for FEMA in Region VIII. In this role, Sean provides expertise in earthquake response, performs risk analyses, and advocates for mitigation efforts. Previously, Sean worked as a Civil Engineer at the U.S. Geological Survey, contributing to seismic design guidelines and applications. Sean's early career included an engineering internship with the State of NY Metropolitan Transportation Authority and teaching SAT/ACT courses to high school students. Sean earned a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Bachelor’s degree from Princeton University.
