James van Merkensteijn is a seasoned professional currently serving as the VP of Strategy & Business Development for low carbon commodities at Equinor, a role they have held since 2020. They previously held various leadership positions within Equinor, including Head of Legal COO and Vice President of New Value Chains. Prior to their tenure at Equinor, James worked at New York Life Insurance Company in various roles related to Legal, Corporate M&A, and Government Relations from 1997 to 2006. James earned a Doctor of Law (JD) from Cardozo School of Law and holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Design of the Environment from the University of Pennsylvania.
