The Deutsche Stiftung Denkmalschutz (German Foundation for Monument Protection) is the biggest private initiative for preservation of the cultural heritage in Germany. Founded in 1985 as a citizens' initiative, the private trust commits itself to fund and preserve about 500 endangered monuments each year, enabled through contributions of more than 200.000 regular donors. The charity raises awareness through a hollistic communication approach, e.g., coordinating Germany's biggest cultural event "Tag des offenen Denkmals®".
