Cotting School is a leader in educating students with special needs ages 3 to 22 with moderate to severe learning disabilities, communication needs, complex medical conditions, and/or post-traumatic injuries.  Our mission is to enable students with special needs to achieve their highest learning potential and level of independence. 

Founded in 1893, Cotting is a private, non-profit day school educating students in an inclusive community that fosters academic achievement, skill development, and social-emotional maturity. 

The curriculum follows the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and students are taught in small classes organized in lower, middle, and upper schools. We value partnerships among students and families, staff members, public funding agencies, donors, and volunteers. By providing outreach and consulting services regionally, nationally and internationally, we expand our commitment as experts in the field of special education.

HOPEhouse at Cotting School is the next step in transition for young adults with special needs ages 17-22. The program is s a co-ed, five day per week, 180-day boarding school on the Cotting campus. 

Cotting School is approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Advancement and Marketing

The Therapists Team at Cotting School is dedicated to supporting the diverse needs of students with special needs through a range of specialized services. This multi-disciplinary team, consisting of occupational therapists, physical therapists, and speech language pathologists, collaborates to enhance students' physical, communicative, and daily living skills. By developing and implementing individualized therapeutic programs, they help students achieve their highest potential and foster greater independence, contributing to their overall academic and social-emotional well-being.

Therapists Team

The Program Support team at Cotting School plays a crucial role in facilitating the educational and developmental needs of students with special needs. Comprised of dedicated Program Assistants and a Program Assistant Teacher, the team collaborates to implement individualized educational plans, provide direct classroom support, and assist with daily activities. They ensure a supportive and inclusive environment that enhances student learning, skill development, and social-emotional growth.

Program Support

The Special Education Team at Cotting School is responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs. This includes designing customized learning experiences, employing instructional technology, coordinating with families and other stakeholders, and ensuring that students achieve academic, social, and emotional goals within a supportive and inclusive environment. The team also plays a critical role in ongoing staff development and outreach initiatives to share best practices in special education.

Special Education Team

The Educational Team at Cotting School is dedicated to providing specialized instruction and support to students with moderate to severe learning disabilities, communication needs, complex medical conditions, and/or post-traumatic injuries. This team includes professionals such as Visual Art Teachers, Instructional Coaches, Teachers, Vocational Instructors, and Guidance Counselors who work collaboratively to foster academic achievement, skill development, and social-emotional maturity in alignment with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Their diverse expertise ensures a comprehensive educational experience aimed at enabling each student to reach their highest learning potential and level of independence.
