Akila Thenuwara, Ph.D., is an experienced Senior Battery Cell Scientist at Corning Incorporated, specializing in solid-state battery technology since June 2022. Prior to this role, Akila served as an Electrochemist at Albemarle Corporation, focusing on electrolyte development, and as a Postdoctoral Scholar at Georgia Institute of Technology, where advanced electrochemical measurements and electrolyte formulations for low-temperature performance were investigated. Akila's early career included a doctoral research assistantship at Temple University, contributing to projects for the Center for the Computational Design of Functional Layered Materials, as well as teaching assistant roles and a demonstrator position in physical chemistry. Akila earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Temple University and a Bachelor of Science with a Special Degree in Chemistry from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka.
