Tout au long de ses 20 ans d’existence Colombbus n’a jamais perdu de vue sa volonté d’avoir un impact social concret par le numérique, pour toucher un public qui en est éloigné : permettre, à un public qui en est éloigné, de s’approprier les outils numériques et le code informatique, et de s’ouvrir des perspectives personnelles et professionnelles.

En 2000, les actions consistaient en la fourniture de matériel et l’initiation à l’informatique de communautés dans les barrios pauvres de Caracas. 
En France 20 ans plus tard, les actions portent sur l’insertion professionnelle d’un public éloigné de l’emploi durable par les chantiers d’insertion par le numérique ( Evry, Buisson, Terrage, Suresnes ) et l’autonomisation et la confiance des publics jeunes et séniors par la médiation Numérique ( Lutte contre la fracture numérique ).
