Clarkston Capital Partners, LLC is a Michigan-based investment management firm that is 100% employee owned. Our Midwestern roots combined with our unconventional backgrounds provide the foundation for the investment philosophy we utilize to serve institutional and individual investors alike.
 
Clarkston’s beginnings trace back to 2004 when brothers Jeff and Jerry Hakala founded the firm following early careers other than investment management — public accounting and corporate finance, respectively. During this time, they developed a passion for investing, and without the prototypical portfolio management background, they were able to take a patient approach to developing their own investment strategy. Over time, the brothers developed an investment philosophy that we refer to as “Quality and Value” that relies on a combination of their Midwestern values and the patience and discipline developed through their atypical beginnings.
