Caroline Fowler

Starr Director, Research and Academic Program

Caroline Fowler is the Starr Director of the Research and Academic Program at The Clark Art Institute, where they direct a leading art history research institute, host international fellows, and organize scholarly programs. They have authored *Slavery and the Invention of Dutch Art* (Duke University Press, 2025) and host the podcast "In the Foreground: Conversations on Art and Writing." Caroline previously served as a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Gallery of Art and as a postdoctoral researcher at Yale University. They are also a lecturer at Williams College and have chaired the Association of Research Institutes in Art History from 2021 to 2024. Caroline holds a Ph.D. in Art History from Princeton University and a B.A. in Art History from New York University.
