The Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) is a non-partisan research and policy group working to ensure our nation's consumer finance system promotes and protects homeownership and family wealth. Our focus is on consumer lending: primarily mortgages, payday loans, credit cards, bank overdrafts, and auto loans.

We provide research and technical policy expertise to help policymakers evaluate consumer protection options and wealth-building opportunities. We educate consumers and the media about predatory lending issues, work with local and national coalitions to push for change, and take part in selected legal cases to advance consumer protections.

CRL is an affiliate of Self-Help, one of the nation's largest nonprofit community development lenders. We have offices in Durham, NC; Washington, DC; and Oakland, CA.

They engage with policymakers, form coalitions with advocacy groups, provide policy analysis, and advocate for consumer-friendly financial policies at both state and federal levels.

The Leadership Team at the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL) is responsible for steering the organization toward its mission of promoting and protecting homeownership and family wealth through consumer finance reform. This team provides strategic direction, oversees policy and research initiatives, manages philanthropic efforts, and ensures operational efficiency across CRL’s multiple offices. By coordinating across various functional areas—policy, communications, research, and finance—the Leadership Team ensures that CRL effectively advocates for consumer protections and drives systemic change in the lending industry.

Leadership Team

The Communications Team at the Center for Responsible Lending is responsible for developing and executing strategic communication plans to educate and engage the public, policymakers, and the media about consumer protection and predatory lending issues. They manage the organization’s digital presence, create content for various platforms, and coordinate media relations to amplify CRL's research and policy advocacy efforts.
