Burnet’s expertise in specific infectious diseases of global health significance (especially COVID-19, HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis) continues to make an impact on vulnerable communities internationally and in Australia, along with our research and public health
programs in women’s and children’s health; alcohol, drugs and harm reduction; sexual and reproductive health; healthy ageing and young people’s health.

Burnet Institute is formally accredited as a medical research organisation with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), and as a non-government organisation (NGO) with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade – Australian Aid.

Burnet Institute’s head office is in Melbourne, Australia and we also have offices or representatives in Myanmar, Papua New Guinea and China, as well as supporting projects in other Asia-Pacific countries.
