Located on San Francisco's Pier 39 at Fisherman’s Wharf, Aquarium of the Bay provides an inspiring window to San Francisco Bay's diverse ecosystem and wildlife. We share our conservation message with over half a million local and international visitors each year.  In addition to inspiring and empowering the public to protect and restore San Francisco Bay and its watershed, we provide an array of education programs to Bay Area kindergarten through high school students focused on expanding watershed and environmental literacy.

Aquarium of the Bay is a non-profit institution, Smithsonian Affiliate, accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) and certified as a Green Business by the city of San Francisco.

Our education programs strive to motivate, inform, and empower people to make choices that benefit our environment by demonstrating how their actions can have positive results. As a founding member of the San Francisco Bay Area Sustainable Seafood Alliance, Aquarium of the Bay is committed to educating our guests about sustainable seafood and the impact of personal choice. We take a leading role in promoting and enhancing the sustainable seafood movement in the Bay Area and actively recruiting new restaurants to join the Alliance.

The Animal Care Team at Aquarium of the Bay is responsible for the health, wellbeing, and daily care of the institution's diverse array of marine life. This team ensures the proper maintenance of aquatic habitats, conducts health assessments, develops and implements feeding regimes, and participates in rescue and rehabilitation efforts. They also contribute to conservation and research initiatives and engage in public education to promote sustainable practices and ocean conservation.

Animal Care Team

The Education and Outreach team at Aquarium of the Bay is dedicated to delivering comprehensive educational experiences and fostering community engagement around ocean conservation and the San Francisco Bay ecosystem. This team conducts interactive programs for Bay Area K-12 students to promote watershed and environmental literacy and engages the public through tours, presentations, and hands-on activities. They also work with volunteers, including scuba divers, to enhance educational programs and support sustainable practices within the community.

Education and Outreach

The Life Support Systems team at Aquarium of the Bay is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the intricate systems that ensure the health and well-being of all aquatic life exhibits. This includes monitoring water quality, regulating temperature and filtration, and ensuring the proper functioning of mechanical and biological systems essential for aquatic life support. The team also collaborates on sustainability initiatives to align with the aquarium’s environmental conservation mission.
