Matt Severson is the Executive Vice President of Academy Collection and Preservation at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, overseeing its significant holdings, including the Academy Film Archive and the Margaret Herrick Library. They began their career at the Academy in 1997 in the Photographic Archive and progressed to roles such as Associate Director and Director of the Margaret Herrick Library. Matt holds a Master’s degree and completed doctoral work in Film Studies from San Francisco State University and the University of Southern California, respectively. Their writing has appeared in various publications, and in 2023, they edited the exhibition catalog "Agnès Varda: Director’s Inspiration." With a commitment to preserving cultural memory, Matt aims to inspire future generations of filmmakers, scholars, and audiences.
